Encoding

The ladder is derived per asset from a complexity pass, so a screencast does not get film bitrates.

We encode AV1 for the top renditions and fall back to H.264 for compatibility. Typical saving: 28% at equal VMAF.

Segmented parallel encode across the fleet. A 60-minute source is playable in about four minutes.

Multi-CDN with real-time steering on measured throughput, not on a static preference list.

Token verification happens on the delivery machine, so an expired link never reaches storage.

Two-second segments, low-latency where supported, and byte-range addressing so seeking is cheap.
